Friends of Dilkes Park

15 miles to the Olympic Village!
On Saturday 29th May 2010, members of our community took part in the second of our Fitness Programmes based at Dilkes Park, using Outdoor Gym Equipment  funded by Veolia ES. This time we had assistance from David, of Sustrans, and Kay and her colleague from Safer Cycling, giving residents information on how and where they can cycle in safety.

Though volunteers from SOCF manned the refreshment stall, offerring tea and coffee, fresh fruit and juice, the grey and miserable weather kept the number of participants low. Those who did join in had a great time and the children loved meeting up with Jan and Fi, their Playworkers from Thurrock Play Network.

A third day is planned on Saturday 11th September, though the time and activities may change from those above. James will once again be in attendance to assist residents with exercises they can use on the Gym Equipment. He is also available at other times to answer health and fitness queries.... just contact him via The Forum.

Keeping Our Park Clean

Stalwart members of Friends of Dilkes Park group, Sonia and Peter, keep an eye on the condition of the park, along with Maggie, one of our Trustees, and Alan, a local resident. We regularly litter pick and report fly-tipping and vandalism to the BeSmart team at Thurrock Council ( 0800581281) It is so important that problems are identified with and reported straight away and we have good partnership working with the groundsmen and the beSmart team. We urge park users to call in to The Forum if they have any comments on the park. We want to continue working in partnership with Thurrock Council to make Dilkes one of the best parks in the area.Recently our new Community Noticeboard had to be removed after being mis-treated, but it will soon be replaced and continue giving you up to date information on activities in the park.
